1. Trim Your Wick Before Every Burn
The golden rule of candle care: trim your wick to ¼ inch before lighting. This simple step prevents black smoke, reduces soot buildup, and helps your candle burn evenly. Use scissors or a wick trimmer for best results.
2. Let the Wax Pool Completely
The first burn is the most important! Allow the wax to melt all the way to the edges of the container (this usually takes 2-4 hours). This prevents "tunneling" where the candle burns down the center, wasting wax around the sides.
3. Don't Burn Too Long
While it's tempting to enjoy your candle all day, limit burn time to 4 hours maximum. Longer burns can cause the wick to mushroom and the container to overheat. Give your candle a break between burns!
